Your information
Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026 · The Portfolio Desk, Massachusetts, United States
At a glance
Your portfolio belongs to your account; we do not publish your holdings. We use your information to run the service, answer questions and create briefings. We do not sell your personal information or accept paid stock promotions. This policy explains the details.
Information we collect
When you sign up, we collect your email, password, age and any name you provide. We store portfolio names, paper cash balances, tickers, shares, cost bases and saved briefings. If you subscribe, we record your plan and subscription identifiers and may use a school email you provide for Student checkout. We also receive basic technical information needed to operate and secure the site, such as requests and error logs. When you ask the Research Desk a question, your question and recent conversation are sent for an answer; the chat currently stays in your browser session and is not saved as an account conversation by Portfolio Desk.
How we use it
We use account data to sign you in and manage your plan; holdings and market data to display your portfolio and generate briefings; questions to return AI answers; and technical records to keep the service reliable and prevent abuse. Generated briefings are saved to your account. Our current public chat does not automatically read your saved holdings. We do not use your portfolio as a public example or identify you on the public scoreboard.
Who processes data
Lovable Cloud provides account authentication and data storage. The Lovable AI service and its model provider process the prompts needed for AI answers and briefings; briefing prompts include holdings, share counts, cost bases, prices and headlines, while chat prompts include what you type and the recent messages sent with your question. The AI requests are sent with storage disabled at the model request level, but our saved briefings remain in your account. Finnhub supplies market quotes and news for requested tickers. Stripe handles checkout and payment details; we receive subscription status and identifiers, not your full card number. These providers may process information under their own terms and privacy notices. Following an external news link also takes you to that publisher’s site.
Cookies and local storage
We use essential session storage to keep you signed in and remember necessary site state. The site does not use advertising cookies. Your browser or our hosting providers may use technical data to deliver the site securely.
Keeping and deleting data
Account and portfolio records remain while your account is active, unless you delete a portfolio or request account deletion. We may need to keep limited records for billing, legal or security purposes after an account closes. You can delete individual portfolios from your desk. To request a copy, correction or deletion of your account data, email contactus@theportfoliodesk.com from your account email. We may verify your identity before acting. Account deletion is handled by request; there is not currently a self-service delete-account button.
Security, location and your choices
We use access controls and service providers to protect account data, but no online service can promise absolute security. Providers may process data in the United States or other countries. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or limit use of your data; contact us to make a request. You can stop using the service and request deletion at any time. Please avoid including sensitive financial or personal details in free-text questions beyond what is needed.
Children and updates
Portfolio Desk is not intended for children under 13, and sign-up requires an age of at least 13. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us. We may update this policy and will post the new effective date here, with appropriate notice of material changes.
