The fine print
Terms of Service
Effective October 1, 2026 · Operated by The Portfolio Desk, Massachusetts, United States
1. What Portfolio Desk does
Portfolio Desk lets you record stock holdings, practice with a simulated portfolio, read AI-generated research briefings and ask investing questions. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Educational information, not advice
We are not a broker or investment adviser. Nothing on the site is a recommendation tailored to your financial circumstances, a solicitation to buy or sell, or a guarantee of returns. Stances such as “Hold” or “Consider adding” are research labels, not instructions. You make your own investment decisions and are responsible for your own trades, taxes and losses. Consider speaking with a qualified professional before making financial decisions.
3. Paper and real portfolios
Paper portfolios start with $100,000 of simulated cash. Paper trades do not buy or sell actual securities and may not reflect real execution prices, fees, liquidity or taxes. A “real” portfolio is a record of holdings you enter; Portfolio Desk does not connect to your brokerage or place trades for you. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter.
4. Market data and AI
Quotes, headlines and other market information come from third parties and may be delayed, incomplete or unavailable. AI-generated answers and briefings can be inaccurate, omit important facts or cite material that changes. Check original sources and current prices before acting. The public scoreboard currently includes sample figures while the service is in beta; those figures are not actual performance results. Past results never guarantee future results. We do not accept paid stock promotions or run ads.
5. Accounts and acceptable use
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account; if you are under the age of majority where you live, use the service with a parent or guardian’s permission. Provide accurate information, keep your password secure and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access. Do not abuse the service, interfere with its operation, automate excessive requests, impersonate others or use the site for unlawful activity. We may limit or suspend access for misuse or security reasons.
6. Plans and billing
The free plan is available at no charge. Paid plans are billed through Stripe at the price and billing interval shown at checkout, plus applicable taxes. Pro is listed at $9 per month or $79 per year; the Student plan is listed at $4 per month for eligible school-email users. Checkout displays the final amount and currency before payment. Subscriptions renew until canceled. You can request cancellation or billing help at contactus@theportfoliodesk.com; cancellation ends future renewals, and access may continue through the paid period. Except where required by law, fees already paid are not automatically refunded. We will give notice of material price changes before they take effect for an existing subscription.
7. Availability and changes
We may change, pause or discontinue features, and briefings may not always arrive at a particular time. We may update these terms as the service evolves. We will post an updated effective date here and give appropriate notice for material changes. Continued use after an update takes effect means you accept the revised terms.
8. Responsibility and limits
We provide the service as available, without a promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent allowed by law, The Portfolio Desk is not responsible for investment losses or indirect or consequential damages resulting from use of the service. Nothing in these terms removes rights that cannot legally be waived. Massachusetts law governs these terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
